Ooni of Ife Coronation Holds Today

Prince Adeyeye Ogunwusi, having come to the end of the 21-day pre – installation rites at Ilofi, will be crowned the new Ooni of Ife today. The coronation will be taking place at the palace, Ile Oodua (House of Oduduwa), where he will ascend the throne and function in the office of the long line of kings before him.

Speaking to a team of journalists yesterday, Mr Biyi Odunlade, a close aid to the newly appointed Ooni had this to say, ” The Ooni will leave Ilofi later tonight (Sunday) and he will be crowned tomorrow (Monday). The Ooni does not receive the crown in the public. Unlike other Obas, who are crowned in public, Ooni of Ife doesn’t receive the crown in public. The traditional crowning will be done at the palace on Monday (today) but the inauguration would hold on December 7. The Ooni will come out to see some people after the traditional coronation.”
