News from Lagos, Nigeria - Reports from Vanguard Nigeria state that a list of beneficiaries for the Federal Government's N5,000 conditional cash transfer is ready, and it includes 8 states.

The list, we read, was collated with help from the World Bank which helped Nigeria determine the metrics and method for identifying poor and needy people in these eight states. Work is ongoing to include other states in the country.

How the Nigerian Government is Identifying Poor People for its N5,000 Cash Transfer

The method for doing this is ostensibly by going to two poorest LGAs in the state and identify the two poorest villages/communities there. A list is the drawn from that poor community. This program is designed to benefit 1 million Nigerians.

Criteria for Determining Who Benefits

The following are the criteria for determining the benefactors of this scheme:
- School enrolment by the parents of school-age children;
- Immunization of children against child-killer diseases as well as the aged and disabled poor.

This programme will run for as long as the Buhari administration is in power.

The Buhari administration has assured Nigerians that contrary to what is currently going around, the presidency has not cancelled this program.
