If there’s one thing Abuja is not lacking in, it’s restaurants. Do you want Chinese food? Craving some Indian takeout? What about some French cuisine? Or maybe you just want some seafood. Whatever you’re pining for, there are one or two restaurants in Abuja that can supply it; even South Indian Cuisine.

Now, one might ask “Isn’t all Indian food the same?” and the answer to that question would be “Of course not.”. Just like there isn’t one Nigerian food, Indian food is much more than just chicken tikka masala. It’s understandable you have this notion as most “Indian” restaurants serve predominantly northern Indian food – rich, creamy sauces and curries; tandoori baked meat, butter chicken – whereas south Indian food is actually more distinct and features a number of dishes that are favorable to vegetarians as well as seeds, popped spices and tomatoes.

Fortunately, a group of people got together and decided it would be great to have a place in Abuja where people can go to enjoy authentic south Indian meals and they made it happen. Masala Wahala, a subsidiary of Nkoyo Resyaurant, exists to enlighten and please the taste buds of food lovers with professionally prepared south Indian cuisine to meet all food preferences; be it seafood, poultry, meat, or vegetarian.

The restaurant occupies a section of the Nkoyo restaurant at Ceddi plaza, and provides a beyond amazing dining experience. The space is lit by a skylight, large windows lining the roof, as well as wooden lanterns dangling from the ceiling and gives a very exotic feel with wood paneled floors, trees in the center of and lining the space, soft tribal music plying in the background, and several artworks on display as you enter the area. What’s most interesting is the open kitchen where customers can see the food being prepared. It all feels very upclass and sophisticated.

Some may consider the prices a bit steep, but the food is well worth it. One bite of their king prawns will give you and your taste buds a whole new appreciation of Indian food. Flavors pop without being too empowering and everything is well cooked and properly seasoned. Portions may not be very large, but the food is quite filling, probably because of the spices, and you won’t feel like you spent a lot of money for nothing. Several seating options are available, so it’s great for a private date, a family outing, or a secret business meeting- * 1st Floor (Right Wing), Ceddi Plaza, Central Business District, Abuja – (+234) 0705 953 0000, (+234) 0705 954 0000*
