Abia State is called ‘God’s own State’. It is one of the Nigerian states that have become famous over years because of some of its cities like Aba. Should you ever visit Abia State, we have some of the places that you may love to visit before you leave.

The Long Juju of Arochukwu

A lot of us have heard of this place that often brings up the nostalgia of the slave trade in Nigeria. The Long Juju of Arochukwu is a cave that has a dark tunnel that seems endless. It was through here that a lot of slaves left for other settlements around the world. Before the slave trade, this place was used to settle disputes among villages. It has become an internationally recognized tourist spot in the world. We are yet to see it become a UNESCO World Heritage Site though, but who’s to say that won’t happen soon?

The Azumini Blue River

Who would say that this blue river is not a beautiful tourist site? We have seen some stunning rivers in the world but the Azumini Blue River is on a class of its own. The freshness and blueness of the river is unique, given that the usual colour our rivers possess is some shade of brown. It takes t course from the Aba River – which is also called “Waterside”. There is no time in the year that we do not see people coming to have fun.

Amakama Wooden Cave

Amakama is where you will find this wooden cave that is a bit of a wonder to all. This is an extraordinarily large tree that has a hollow right inside it that can accommodate up to 20 people at the same time. The tree is ancient and no one can tell its exact age. It was once used as a safe house for people during the slave era and inter-tribal wars.  You should visit sometime to revel in the wonder that this place holds.

National War Museum

The National War Museum was created in 1958. It is situated at Ebite Amafor in Isingwu in Umuahia and occupies a huge expanse of land that has undulating hills. There are three great galleries in the museum that would give you insights to what really happened in the war era.

National Museum of Colonial History

The National Museum of Colonial History in Aba is where you will find collections of a lot of things especially about the relics of European imperialism and many more.
