How are Nigerian hotels rated? What does it mean in Nigeria when a hotel is rated 5-stars? Who gave it five stars, and why?

These are really crucial questions.

The Five-Star Hotel Rating System in Nigeria - An Explanation

what is the best hotel in Nigeria?

Hotel ratings are the standard metric of hotel quality. Some of the parameters upon which a hotel may be given a star rating include the food quality, entertainment, ambiance, the view, room sizes (and facilities/equipment provided), ease of access and the location of the hotel. This is in no wise an exhaustive list.

Hotel rating varies from country to country, but in countries like Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, the following is applicable.

One-star ( * ) - Tourist hotels
Two-star ( * * ) - Standard hotels
Three-star ( * * * ) - Comfort hotels
Four-Star ( * * * * ) - First-Class Hotels
Five-Star (* * * * *) - Luxury Hotels

The word 'superior' is often appended to the name of a hotel that has a standard above its current rating, but not enough to make it to the next star rating. For example, a one-star hotel with better services than the average one-star hotel but not enough to be considered 'standard' will be called a Superior Tourist Hotel.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization has recently begun to work with international hotels and agencies to standardize the hotel rating system for the country.
