If you are one of those people like me who leave packing for a trip till the very last minute, then this post would really come in handy for you. When you have to catch up with a flight in a couple of hours and the airport is at least 40 minutes away from where you leave or you want to bum a ride with a friend going your way and they are leaving in less than an hour, you suddenly find out you would have to pack your suitcase in a very short time. This post teaches you how to pack a suitcase in 30 minutes and be sure you did not forget anything. For instructions on how to pack a small suitcase check out our post on How to pack your life in a carryon.

Open the suitcase wide

If you are sure you want to get packed up in 30 minutes, your suitcase should be at the ready long before then. A lot of packers tend to fold all the clothes they want to take on the trip on the bed or chair and then pack it into the suitcase after they are done. This takes a longer time. Open it wide on your bed so you can pack directly into it and save time.

Throw in the necessities first

Things like your passport, driving license, necessary documents, medication, toothbrush, combs and other necessities should be the first in this suitcase. If you are one of those people who break out in hives if they don’t use their specific soaps or creams, ensure you pack yours, or plan to buy when you get to your destination.

Pick out your travelling outfit

Pick out two outfits you would be wearing on the trip to your destination and back. Select one that you would wear on the trip to your destination, pack the other outfit in the bag for the return trip.

Pick an outfit for everyday – then add two

It is always best to pick out a different outfit for each day of the trip and then add two outfits – just in case. If you would be climbing mountains or engaging in other really rugged and exciting stuff, best to go with jeans. Remember, as you pack the outfits, to select the shoes that would match also. Best to go with sneakers and easy wear shoes, except you are sure you would be attending an event at your destination. Then you should add two really nice suitable outfits too.

Pack up your entertainment

This is where you add your laptop, game console, DVDs, novels, iPod and other entertainments that you think you would need at your destination.

Once you are done, zip up your bag and run down the stairs to catch your flight. Safe trip!
