How Nigerians Can Get a Visa to Austria

About Austria

Austria is a German-speaking country in Central Europe with a population of 8.474 million, it is characterized by highly mountainous and rugged Alpine terrains, baroque architecture, and Imperial history. Vienna is its capital, with the Danube River passing through and it is home to the Schönbrunn and Hofburg palaces. Austria acceded to the Schengen Convention on April 28th 1995, making it one of the Schengen countries. Its official currency is the Euro.

Types of Austrian Visa

An Austrian Schengen visa allows entry into other Schengen countries, but with Austria as the main destination (except it is a Limited territorial validity visas which only allows you travel to the Schengen state that issued the visa).

There are broadly two categories under which Austrian visas are placed, and this is based on the intended length of stay.

  1. Short stay visas (Below 90 days): Such purposes of travel that fall within this category include
    • Tourism • Private visits • Business • Transit travel.
  2. Long stay visas:
    • Study • Minors in school • Marriage • Paid activities • Working

Requirements

If you have plans of making a trip to Austria for business purpose, you will be needing a short stay visa, and the visa applications have to be lodged at the Austrian embassy. The information below contains a list of documents required and that should be made ready before putting in your application for the visa.

  1. Application form (completely filled out and signed personally or in case of minors by the relevant legal guardian), this can also be filled electronically and then a hard copy printed.

  2. Two recent passport sized photographs which captures the full face with a light background is required.

  3. Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond return date, with at least two blank pages.

  4. Copy of the passports data sheet (page on which the photo is located).

  5. Copies of your previous visas (if any).

  6. A cover letter stating the purpose of visit to Austria and itinerary.

  7. Flight Itinerary with dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Austria.

  8. Hotel reservation for the whole duration of the intended stay in Austria.

  9. A proof of your civil status (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse if applicable).

  10. Proof of legal stay (if the application is not presented in the country of origin).

  11. Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay in Austria.

  12. Original invitation letter, signed by the inviting company on the company letter paper (or company fax/company e-mail directly to the embassy/consulate general), providing information about the travel purpose, travel data, name, birthdate, passport number of the invitee.

  13. Proof of previous trade relations between the two companies, if any exists.

  14. Certificate of employment (if employed).

  15. A certificate from your employer stating/allowing your business travel(if employed).

  16. Trade register excerpt or the like (for self-employed).

  17. Business bank statement of the latest 6 months.

  18. Memorandum and Article of Association in original certified copy (registered with joint stock companies).

  19. Trade License (first issued and present renewal).

  20. Proprietorship/Partnership documents.

Application should be presented at least three weeks before the intended travel. According to each individual case the competent embassy may request for additional documentation.
