Great Places To See During The Calabar Carnival

The Calabar Carnival fun begins in November and ends on the first day of January the next year. Think about it – a full month of fun. Perhaps you never wrote down the places you may want to visit in Calabar. Leaving Calabar for places like Obudu Mountain Resort can be really stressful and time consuming. To cut costs and still have time to have fun in Calabar during the carnival, we have listed some places you should visit before you leave.

The Duke Town Church

You don’t have to be religious to visit the Duke Town Church. The church is one of the oldest churches you will ever come across in Nigeria. During the carnival, Calabar is filled with loads of activities, and the curious ones come here. A lot of people would want to know the type of building this is.

Bogobiri

The aroma of grilled Hausa steak called suya fills this place called Bogobiri. Here, you would find the suya plaza that is a popular spot for visitors. Most Nigerians are in love with this steak. Bogobiri is the place to be during this carnival.

Watt Market

Come do your shopping here. The Watt Market is a popular place that attracts shoppers who want to get jeans, wax materials, automobile parts and many more. Things are affordable, which means you won’t miss out when you come here to do your shopping.

Atimbo

You would love to taste the plantain pottage and bush meat and wash it down with some palm wine, fondly called ‘up wine’. You can have this delicacy at a place called Atimbo, which is on the town’s outskirt. You would be glad you came here during the Calabar Carnival because of the meals and the type of stories you can share with the locals here.

Marian Market

Last on our list is the Marian Market. What can you get there as a visitor? Vegetables are affordable here along with fresh produce from the farms. If you are good at price haggling, you won’t have a challenge buying a lot of things here at an affordable rate. The market is a great place to see when you are here in Calabar.
