From Murtala Muhammed Airport to Ghana

Some seven years back l wanted to go on vacation, after much deliberations within my heart l decided to go and see what really was it that had made Ghana a place where almost everybody was running to for either business or vacation at that time. So l booked my flight with one of the local airlines in Nigeria. I must say local airlines in Nigeria are improving by the day. As I got to Murtala Mohammed Int’l airport Lagos, we went through the normal security checks.

Meanwhile my wife had made for me my favourite soup which is chicken lite soup with snail. At the Murtala Mohammed airport here in Lagos l was able to make go through with my soup which was well packed in a food flask. The problem started when l arrived at Kotoka airport in Accra. The security checks were so thorough especially on those of us who were Nigerians.

One of the security women noticing how l carried the nylon in which l packed the soup walked to me and asked me to hand over what l had in the nylon to her. I initially resisted because l was too ashamed to say what l had there loudly and being a stuttering person or a person who stammers, l whispered S-N-A-I- while handing it over. She didn’t even allow me complete what l was about to say, she dropped the content of the nylon and took to her heels.

However the container opened as it landed and the content of that food flask spilled on the floor splashing and staining almost all those around me. I called for help and some people around me came to help clean the mess, l looked up far away from me and l saw the security l ady pointing at me and screaming ‘snake, snake, snake’ it was then that l now realised why she threw away the content of the nylon. She thought l said I had snake in that package and being someone who has this phobia for snake, she had no other option than to take to her heels.
