The board of trustees of the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN), along with Prophet TB Joshua, will today stand trial before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over the collapse of its six storey church building on September 12, 204, which led to the death of 116  persons.

The deputy director, Public Affairs of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Bola Akingbade in a statement confirming the scheduled arraignment pointed out that all those  to stand trial before Judge Lawal Akapo today include Prophet TB Joshua, members of the SCOAN board of trustees and the engineers who constructed the building.

The engineers involved, Mr. Oladele Ogundeji and Mr. Akinbela Fatiregun, had previously filed two separate suits at the Federal High Court in Lagos seeking an order restraining the police from inviting, arresting or prosecuting them over the victims’ death – a suit which was dismissed by Justice Ibrahim Buba.

The engineers had filed the fundamental human rights suit after the Coroner’s verdict on ugust 7, 2014 that the building collapse was due to structural defect indicted them in the incident, stating that the judge’s decision was biased and unreasonable. The Coroner’s report recommended that the engineers be prosecuted for criminal negligence.
