CALABAR – The governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, has assured that the Calabar Monorail currently under construction will be commissioned and operational in time for the Carnival Calabar, which is slated for December 28.

According to the governor, the Calabar Monorail will, after it is commissioned, be the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa. It is projected that the monorail will aid in reviving the Tinapa Business Resort as it will ferry in more traffic and also impact positively on the economy of the state.

“This monorail should be working, latest by December 20. That is the commitment we have received from the contractor handling the project.”

“Owing to the vagaries that have attended the effective functioning of Tinapa, resulting from institutional and regulatory framework, my predecessor, Governor Liyel Imoke, in his wisdom, decided to find a way to bring both CICC and Tinapa together.” he said, while pointing out that the monorail was a confluence between the Calabar International Convention Centre, CICC, and the Tinapa Business Resort.
