Most of the time, when you hear someone talking about a Japanese restaurant, they’re usually referring to one they had been to outside Nigeria. Imagine the look of shock on people’s faces when they hear there’s a Japanese(not Chinese as people often make this mistake) restaurant in Lagos. Most people would find it hard to believe, more importantly, they would not even know what to expect as it is not in the least bit common. Well, I’m here to tell you a little bit about one of the best Japanese restaurants around: Bonzai!.

Bonzai is an amazing Japanese restaurant located at Akin Adesola street, Victoria Island, Lagos. Stepping into this restaurant, for a minute, you wouldn’t be able to help but wonder if you’ve left the shores of Nigeria and somehow turned up in East Asia. The interior is wonderfully decorated as “Japanese” as possible, with the most beautiful art pieces hung stylishly around the restaurant, great seating arrangements for every kind of customer; singles, couples, there’s even this very long seating side that caters to a large group of people. The Japanese cuisine takes “sumptous” and “delicious” to a whole other level.

Three-course meals that would make your mouth water and your tummy rumble just at the sight of them; a variety of starters, main dishes that would make you wonder if you even need dessert, and of course, wonderfully made dessert. Just in case you’re wondering, yes, they do make Sushi(over fifty different types are available), and yes, it is arguably the best sushi you might ever have in that part of Nigeria.

A variety of tasty exotic wines are also available to wash down all this awesomeness with. They go even further to give you that Japanese feel as some of the waitresses serving are dressed as Geishas(so cool, right?). The service at Bonzai is prompt and formidable, you never have to wait for long to be served with any of these awesome dishes. The aura around this restaurant is not just warm but also peaceful and very quiet, serene is more like it. So if you’re looking to have a beautiful meal in a not so crowded place, definitely the place to go.

Just some good advice before you go to this restaurant; I’d suggest you stack up your wallet/purse pretty well as all these meals as delicious as they are, are also expensive; you know how that saying goes “the good things in life aren’t for free”.
