The leadership of The Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Independent People of Biafra has released a statement that it will halt protests in the South-East forthwith to allow for the proposed negotiations around Kanu's release.

While announcing the suspension of the Biafra protests, the National Secretary of MASSOB, Ugwuoke Ibem and the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said Uwazuruike has deviated, adding that he has lost touch with reality.

Their statement reads: “Uwazuruike is a drowning man, who is living on yesterday shadow. Uwazuruike has lost grip on Biafra issues because of his deviation, compromise, open romance with Nigeria Government which has grossly affected his personality. We warn Uwazuruike and his group to stop dragging MASSOB,IPOB into a shameless, naked dance of visionless, missionless, blind existence,” they said.
Adding that “We hereby issue an ultimatum to the Federal Government to prove their seriousness and sincerity on the much published dialogue on the release of Nnamdi Kanu. We shall continue with our non- violent self-determination on Biafra. MASSOB, IPOB will never relent or backside on the agitation for Biafra actualization. We condemn the stupidity, sabotage statement of Ralph Uwazuruike that IPOB,MASSOB introduced violence to Biafra struggle.”

Uwazuruike had previously distanced himself from the protests in the South-East, saying they are politically motivated and got expelled from MASSOB for his troubles, among other accusations.
