Amigo Supermarket

Amigo is considered one of the best supermarkets in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. Apart from being one of the oldest supermarkets in this town, the supermarket has continued to deliver consistent and quality services to its customers. It has over time become quite inclusive too: starting as a small store that catered mostly to the upper class of Abuja, it has now reduced its prices to become more affordable for everyone.

The store itself is quite large and the managers have done a good job of keeping it properly organized.  Place for everything, and everything in its place. Even after one visit, you can easily master the lay of the land. Probably the best thing about the organizational structure is that edibles and consumables have their own section, away from household items and toiletries and such. Somehow, this just makes it more comfortable buying groceries, not having t worry about exposure to toxins.

There’s a frozen foods section different from at other stores where you have the milk and drinks and yoghurt stacked with the meat. There are attendants right there to help you with whatever you need, be it identifying what type of meat is on display, or helping you decide what cheese you need.  There’s a section dedicated to baby food and necessities as well, right by the entrance because nursing mothers don’t need to be running around a store trying to find what they need. Very recently, Amigo opened up a basement section called ‘Toyland’ which, needless to say, has been a big hit with the kids. And, most importantly, there’s a backed goods corner! Amigo cakes a so delicious and moist and it would be terrible to leave the store without one. Now, they have cupcakes as well and a box of 6 giant cupcakes costs about N1200 – totally worth it – which you can top off with one or two scoops of ice-cream from the entrance f the store.

What’s most awesome about Amigo is that they have everything. Their groceries section is stocked full of a variety of milk, tea, cookies, candy, cereal, and whatever is on your list. If you don’t have a favorite or a specific brand you patronize, you’ll have a lot of options to choose from – awesome chance to do a little exploring. Funny thing though, they have an entire aisle dedicated to candy and chocolate and cokies, but just at the top of the aisle is a section for dieters where you have you low-sugar cookies and chocolate and such. So, after you pick out the stuff you need to keep your weight and sugar intake in check, you can walk down the aisle and ogle everything else you are depriving yourself of. And, it’s not just in groceries; you’ll be spoiled for choice when shopping for soap and deodorant and detergent and other household requirements as well. Yes, other stores have all this stuff, but Amigo actually goes through the trouble of stocking both the popular and unpopular brands. – Plot 1023, Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse 2 – Abuja.
