If you’re looking for deals, booking flights and hotels, or even converting currencies so you can budget appropriately and within means, these travel apps have got your back. All you have to do is pack, pick up your bags and head out.

Even if you’re traveling by road, they come in handy one way or another, and what’s more awesome?  You can download most of them for free.

Truth be told, there are quite a number of excellent travel apps to download and use, but we have picked out the top five that will be the most useful to you.

  1. Your Airline’s Native App: Nowadays, most airlines have their own native app for the convenience of passengers. Typically, the app would show flight times, terminal and gate information, and might even eliminate the need for a boarding pass. It would also save time by letting you do things like check in and change your flight with ease. There’s usually information about the destination city with information like weather, time, places to eat, and points of interest. It all depends on what airline you’re flying with. Just know it’s a life saver.
  2. Google Flights: Google Flights offers you flight search tools that make it easy to quickly find the best flight. Whether you’re planning a trip on your desktop, tablet or phone, you can use Google Flights to search for countries and islands around the world. It also helps you draw a quick baseline for the cost of flights, and suggests alternative days to travel if they are flexible. It is semi minimalist and easy to use, it also ties in neatly to other Google services like Google Now, and has a great interface.

  3. * Maps.me*: If you’re hiking, driving, or cycling in any remote place where signal isn’t available or slow, you’ll want backup apps that give you the same basic information without requiring a cell signal. Maps.Me is a great example. This map app not only saves you data by keeping maps offline, but also has more accurate maps than Google Maps for less-visited locations. If you stray far from the beaten path, it’s one app you should download immediately.

  4. * Gogobot*: Now, having arrived where ever you’re going, you have to eat, have some drinks with friends or fellow travelers, and so on. Gogobot app can help with that. It directs you toward fun things to do and see in the moment. Gogobot, can help you find places to eat, play, and sleep based on your location. You can also filter places based on your personal preferences, such as whether you’re more outdoorsy, or are looking for family-friendly spots. It helps you discover the best events, restaurants, attractions and hotels, near you or far away.

  5. * TravelSafe Pro: *A potentially life-saving database of emergency service numbers for just about every country you’d ever care to visit, plus plenty for those that you wouldn’t. There’s also embassy details should passports go missing – and for the truly paranoid, the option to pin certain services to your home screen as widgets for one-fourth access to police, ambulances, and fire engines.

Bon Voyage.
