5 Destinations to Visit In Kwara State

Some people referred to Kwara State as the State of Harmony.” The state has become a home to those who want to have a great time during vacations and weekends. Festivals such as the Pategi Regatta which is an annual boat festival and Edu Festival are some of the events that bring people to the state. There are five places that you may want to see when you come to the state.

*Esie Museum *

This museum was once the home of some people which has turned into human-shaped stone figures and it was established in 1945. These stone figures are what attract visitors to it. It has been fabled that these stone figures were humans who had committed a lot of atrocities and were struck by thunder. They ended up as stones. These stones shapes were said to reflect what these people were doing before their present state. It was in 1775 that these stone figures were discovered.

Mungo Park Cenotaph

We all know the story of Mungo Park, an European explorer who had discovered the River Niger and its source. There is a cenotaph that has been built in his memory and it can be seen between the twin Jebba bridges. The remains of Mungo Park’s wrecked boat can also be seen here.

Pategi Beach

This lovely beach is located along the River Niger and stretches so far with its sand shores. You can come here and explore the water world. The Pategi Regatta which is an annual fishing and boating festival brings a lot of visitors to the state. There is a pavilion where people can sit and watch those who are participating in this festival.

* Owu Waterfalls*

This waterfall is often called the “wonder in the wilderness.” It is a fascinating and one of the highest waterfalls in West Africa. Down it is pool that can be swam. You can take your picnic around this pool or you swim inside it.

Dada Pottery

It is at the Okelele Quarters in Ilorin that you would find the Dada Pottery. This is among Nigeria’s largest native pottery workshops. You can buy affordable and very beautiful pottery here, a lot of visitors are seen here.
