10 Things That Must Not Be Found In Your Baggage at Nigerian Airports

You may find yourself in a fix at any of  the International Airports in Nigeria if you end up with items you shouldn’t come with. Most times, we are innocent and naïve to realize that what we have packed inside our baggage is going to put us in trouble with the Nigerian Customs Officers. Remember, you are going to be searched thoroughly. This is to stop you from entering your flight with forbidden items. Even some of the things that you may think are harmless to hand over to loved ones can be one of those forbidden items. To avoid harassment at any international airport in the country, try not to travel with the following.

Excess Money

Money laundering is a serious crime in Nigeria. There is no I was not aware of the maximum amount I should take out of the country. You should not be caught with cash value that is over $5,000. Just do not try it no matter the idea you think you may have.

Gifts Worth over NGN 50,000

You can move around with gifts and souvenirs but it should not exceed NGN 50,000. Though, there is preferential treatment in this rule because you can move in with your luxury goods, Smartphone and items to name a few. You can ask questions before coming to the airport with some of your personal items.

Pharmaceutical products

You are allowed to travel with your medication but they should not be carried in bulk or they would be seized. It is expected that the pharmaceutical products that you are coming in with should be doctor’s prescription to avoid smuggling drugs in pretence of medication.

*Hard Drugs *

Of course, you know what will happen if you are caught with hard drugs and cocaine. You are not going to be saved by anyone because you are going to find yourself inside a dirty jail for so many years as a criminal.

*Sparkling Wines, Stout & Beer *

The Nigerian Customs will not hear story when they catch you with imported sparkling wines, stout and beer including the locally brewed ones. These items are not allowed and should be avoided at best.

Live Animals

Dogs and cats including pets are not allowed to board the flight with you and if you are allowed to travel with them or come in with them, there should be rabies and health certificate that must be issued by a veterinarian who is certified.

Fresh /Preserved Foods

You may not be allowed to come in to Nigeria with preserved or fresh foods like eggs, vegetables and fresh fruits. You should not learn what you are allowed to come in with or travel out with.

Jewellery / Precious Metals

There is need to be cautious about the type of jewellery that you would travel with when you are coming in or leaving the country. You should declare them to the customs before you can leave these men and women.

* Guns, Firearms and Explosives*

These items are prohibited in any airport in the world. You can only have permits for the ammunition before you can be allowed to board a flight with these items.

Sharp Objects

Darts, arrows, knives, hatches and many other sharp objects are not allowed in airports in Nigeria.
