About The Federal University of Technology, Akure

This University, fondly called ‘FUTA’ was founded by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1981 with the intention of creating universities that specialized in producing graduates with practical as well as theoretical knowledge of technology. Currently ranked as the 9th best University in Nigeria, FUTA seeks to become a “World Class University of Technology and a Centre of excellence in training research, and service delivery”, having over 7 schools, including the school of postgraduate studies, offering accredited training and certificate programmes.

FUTA Admission Requirements

Admission requirements are fairly strict and depend on the courses available. The University offers admission for both Pre-degree, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.


The Federal University of Technology, Akure Admission Requirements For Undergraduates

100 Level Entry Students:

  • Applicants must possess a minimum of 5 credits in SSCE/GCE O’LEVEL/NECO/NABTEB or equivalents at no more than two (2) sittings obtained in subjects relevant to the proposed field of study. The 5 credits must compulsorily be in Mathematics, English and 3 other related subjects.

  • In addition, applicants must register, sit for and attain the prescribed cut-off mark (usually 200) in UTME, and also prepare for a screening process organized by the school.


200 Level (Direct-entry) Students:

  • Applicants must have a National Diploma, which should come from a recognized institution in Nigeria.

  • Applicants are required to have a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in a subject(s) related to the proposed field of study with a minimum of one unit and two (2) passes.


The Federal University of Technology, Akure Admission Requirements For Masters

  • Applicants are required to have a first degree from a University recognized by the Senate of FUTA in a related field of study. A Postgraduate Diploma in a related field from a University recognized by the school would also be an added advantage.


The Federal University of Technology, Akure Admission Requirements For PhD.

  • Candidates applying for the Doctor of Philosophy degree programmes must possess a master's degree with a minimum score of not less than 60% or a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5 on a 5-point scale, in a relevant field of study from a University recognized by the Senate of FUTA.

  • Applicants are to also forward transcripts of their academic records, three (3) referee’s reports, with (2) preferably acquainted with the candidate's academic works.

  • Applicants are also advised to prepare for an interactive session with the school of postgraduate studies.


Applications for the 2017/2018 academic session are currently closed, but FUTA is open to inquiries on admission details, process and inquiries, and sale of application forms into Certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and PhD programmes.

In addition to the numerous centres located in the University, FUTA is also home to a lot of service infrastructures and utilities.
