History of Umaru Musa Yar'adua University

Umaru Musa Yar'adua University was established in 2006out of the desire to improve access to higher education for its citizenry.

Built by Katsina State Government in 2006.

Formerly known as Katsina State University, the University was renamed after the one time governor of the state and 13th President of Nigeria, Alh. Umaru Musa Yar'adua who started the University project.

    The University commenced academic activities with three faculties (Education, Humanities and Natural and Applied Sciences), and 16 undergraduate programmes. It plans to build upon existing academic strength, a total of 13 faculties, 76 departments and 236 academic programs (undergraduate and postgraduate) at the end of a 25 year period of its academic phasing. The University is ranked 32th in Nigeria according to National Universities Commission.

A conducive place for higher learning, it has spacious accommodation halls for the students, IT-worthy lecture halls, and enough facilities for extra-curricular activities. The students are friendly so that reflects on a favorable life on campus. With the pace they are developing, this will be one of the best Universities in the country in the near future.
