About Bowen University
Bowen University popularly called BUI is the first Baptist University in the country. Built by the Nigerian Baptist Commission, the University was established on 17th July 2001 and was charged with providing a well-rounded educational system to the benefit of Nigerians. It was named after Late Reverend Thomas Jefferson Bowen, an American missionary who pioneered the Baptist work in Nigeria in 1850. Established as a private non profit higher institution, BUI started off with over 506 students in three (3) faculties - Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Science and Sciences Education and Faculty of Social and Management Sciences accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other professional bodies, but today boasts of tremendous achievements in the areas of physical and academic development.
BUI is located along Ikire-Iwo Road, Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria. The University currently maintains working partnership/ linkages to so many reputable firms and institutions such as Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Nigeria; the Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research, Ibadan, Nigeria; Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria and a lot more. BUI is driven by personal and professional development, hence, it organizes various national and international conferences, seminars and workshops for its staffs and students.
Bowen University offers courses and programmes leading to officially recognized degrees such as Bachelor’s, Masters and Doctorate degrees in the various disciplines. With its selective admission process based on entrance examinations and past academic grades or records, the University has an enrollment range of 5,000-5,999 students. BUI also provides academic and non-academic facilities and services to students and staff of the institution. Admission Requirements Into Bowen University
Admission Requirements for Undergraduates
The University offers admission for UTME and Direct- entry-level students based on general and specific admission requirements. Applicants wishing to gain admission into the university must familiarize themselves with specific department requirements and admission processes. Information about this can be found at apply.bowenuniversity-edu.org. General admission requirements at BUI include the following:
Prospective applicants are required to sit for the compulsory Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and obtain the prescribed cut-off mark.
Applicants are also required to fill an online application form on the University’s website.
Prospective candidates are required to have a minimum of 5’ O’Level credits in Mathematics, English and three other relevant subjects, obtained in no more than two (2) sittings.
Please note that application forms for the 2017/2018 academic session are currently closed. The 2017/2018 academic session started on Monday, 11th September 2017. Prospective students are advised to regularly check the University’s website for updates.
Admission Requirements for Postgraduates:
The objectives of the postgraduate programmes at BUI are to prepare candidates for proficiency both in academic and professional jobs, equip students for higher academic pursuit and position in the country, and also enable students to acquire necessary professional skills. With the success of the programme since its inception in 2009, BUI has made possible provision for Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Masters and Ph.D. degree programmes. The General admission requirements are as follows:
Applicants must be graduates of the University or any other University recognized by the school’s senate and possess acceptable grades. For PGD programme, applicants must have a minimum of a third class degree; for Master’s, applicants must possess a bachelor degree and have a grade of not less than Second Class Lower Division; for Ph.D., applicants must possess a masters degree with a minimum average score of 60%.
Applicants must provide on request NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter.
Prospective applicants must prepare for an examination of interview organized by the department of choice.

School Fees at Bowen University
Following the recent increase of school fees at BUI, the standard fees for new students in the 2017/2018 session are N650,000; N630,000 for those in the second year, and N615,000 for those in 300 to 500 levels. Some other courses range from N325,000 to N570,000, while courses like Medicine and Law are priced premium. These fees represent the totality of what each student will pay for tuition fees, accommodation, healthcare, and other miscellaneous fees. It is also important to note that the University allows fees to be paid installmentally.

Notable Milestones
In 2016, BUI witnessed a full accreditation of the Medicine programme by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), this lead to the induction and graduation of its first set of Medical students in November 2016.
In 2015, the University commenced programmes in Nursing Science and Physiotherapy. Bowen University so far is the first, and only private University running Physiotherapy programme in Nigeria.
