About University of Lagos
The University of Lagos fondly called Unilag was established on 22nd of October, 1962. The University since its inception has been saddled with the responsibility of intensifying the training of a professional workforce that would bring about rapid change and development to the industrial, economic and political sectors of the nation. Driven by a mission “to provide a conducive environment for teaching, learning, research and development, where students and staffs will interact and compete effectively with other counterparts globally”, the University has grown over time starting up with just three (3) faculties, to having twelve (12) faculties, offering over 60 departmental courses; a college of medicine, and several research centers and institutes.
The University of Lagos currently has three campuses. Two (2) in Yaba (Akoka and the recently created campus at the former school of Radiography), and one in Surulere; it’s College of Medicine located in Idi-araba. The main campus at Akoka is surrounded by the Lagos Lagoon providing a very beautiful view around the University. Enrollment into the University has grown from a startup intake of 131 students in 1962 to over 40,000 students. Unilag is fondly referred to as the “University of first choice” and the “Nation’s pride”. Students and alumni of Unilag are popularly addressed as "GREAT AKOKITES".

The University of Lagos Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements for Undergraduates
The University offers admission for Entry level and Direct-entry level candidates.
Admission into Unilag is a competitive and selective process, with only the best successfully gaining admission. Candidates are advised to frequently visit the institution to find out about the admission process and the exact O’ level subject combination for each course. Precise information about Unilag’s admission requirements, departmental cut-off marks, screening, and registration can be found at http://admissions.unilag.edu.ng/.
General requirements for prospective undergraduates include a minimum entry level requirement of compulsory 5 O’ level credits in Mathematics, English and three other relevant subjects. Having the prescribed JAMB cut-off mark which is usually “200” is also a key requirement. The University’s post-utme form is sold to candidates who meet the JAMB cut-off mark and filled Unilag as their school of first choice.
Admission Requirements for Postgraduates
There are general and specific admission requirements for postgraduate programmes at Unilag. Applicants hoping to be considered for admission must satisfy the following general requirements:
Must possess a Bachelor’s degree from Unilag or any other University approved by the school’s senate.
Must prepare to undergo a selection process in the form of written/oral examination.
Must provide an original copy of NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter.
Must forward an academic transcript to the Administrative Secretary, school of postgraduate studies on or before the session admission is been sought.

Weather At The University of Lagos
The Weather on campus is quite serene and cosy especially in the evening because of its location around the Lagos Lagoon. However, the University still experiences the dry and rainy seasons accustomed to the region in which it is located, but the motorable roads provide easy access amidst heavy downpours.
Notable Milestones
Unilag Radio was the first campus station to receive a license and the first campus station to go on air in 2004.
Unilag has become the first university to be awarded a license to operate a television station. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) granted the TV license to the institution on Thursday, November 9, 2017.
