About University of Uyo
The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) initially called the University of Cross River was established in 1991 by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The University operates a multi-campus system with its campus located at strategic sites in the state, they include, the Main Campus, the Town Campus, the Annex Campus, the College of Health Sciences Campus and the Ime Umanah Campus.
UNIUYO currently boasts of having about 13 faculties offering degree programmes in diverse fields leading to officially recognized degrees such as bachelor, masters and postgraduate degrees. Though a third-generation University, the University of Uyo is competing favourably with most first generation Universities in Nigeria, standing as the 21st best institution in the country.

University of Uyo Admission Requirements For Undergraduates
For entry into any of the Bachelor’s degree programmes, at the University, candidates are normally admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), by Direct Entry or through the pre-degree programme. Prospective candidates will be made to go through the screening tests for all modes of application. We’ve compiled useful details on some of the general requirements, find them below:
100 level students:
As a prospective candidate, you must have credit passes in at least five (5) SSCE/NECO/ O’level subjects including English, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects at no more than two sittings.
You are also required to register, sit for and attain the prescribed JAMB cut-off mark for your preferred course. Then you can be eligible to write the entrance examination (Post-UTME).
200 level (Direct entry-level students):
In addition to having the above requirements, you may also be required to;
Have a National Diploma, which should come from a recognized institution in Nigeria. Applicants may also be required to have a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in a subject(s) related to the proposed field of study with a minimum of one unit and two (2) passes.
You may also be admitted if you have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.
University of Uyo Admission Requirements For Postgraduates
The PG school at UNIUYO runs 94 PhD and 108 Masters programmes spread across the faculties of the University; in addition to a number of Diploma programmes administered at the School of Continuing Education. We’ve compiled details on the general requirements. Find them below:
Admission Requirements For Master’s Degree In UNIUYO
Candidates must have a first degree in the preferred course of study a relevant discipline with an FCGPA of not less than 3.0 from UNIUYO or a recognized university.
Admission Requirements For PhD. In UNIUYO
Prospective applicants must have a master’s degree in the preferred course with an FCGPA not less than 3.50 on a 5 point scale or an average of 60% from the University or one recognized by the school.
It’s also important to note that you may be required to sit for a screening examination and an oral interview organize by the PG school.

The facilities at the institution include administrative blocks, faculty buildings, staff quarters, halls of residence, science laboratories, relaxation centres, an online repository for journals, lecture notes, articles and thesis. The University is also home to;
An Extensive Library: Is composed of four main divisions: Acquisition, Lending, Processing and Research. The library has an active collection of 46,745 volumes and handles about 409,977 lending and reference inquiries annually.
