The University was established on 18th February 2013 by the Federal Government under the leadership of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR.It was built as regards to the federal government policy of providing federal Universities to States that didn't have one yet.However the University began academic activities fully on November 2014 for the 2014/2015 session with a total of 507 students and 102 staff strength
