Following the establishment of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1962, it was renamed Abdullahi Bayero College, after Abdullahi Bayero, Emir of Kano, and soon after became a faculty in the newly established Ahmadu Bello University. In 1975, the University was raised to the status of a ‘University college’ with the right to award degrees on behalf of Ahmadu Bello University, and was thereafter raised to a full-fledged University by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1977, and became Bayero University. The University ceased to be a Faculty at Ahmadu Bello University in 1980. Courses and programmes at BUK are officially accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and lead to recognized degrees such as Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate degrees in diverse disciplines. Prospective students applying to Bayero University are broadly categorized into two, undergraduates and postgraduates. Undergraduate applicants are grouped further into three; UTME, Direct Entry, and Part-time Degree. Admission requirements in each level differ slightly. These requirements are as follows: For UTME -You are required to have at least 5 credit passes in your O’level result or its equivalent at no more than two sittings. The subjects passed should include English Language, Mathematics, and any other three, based on the subject combination for your desired course of study. -You must register for JAMB, sit for the examination, and attain the prescribed JAMB cut-off mark for your course. This would make you eligible to; -Sit for the Post-UTME examination organized by the institution.
