About Obafemi Awolowo University Obafemi Awolowo University formerly called the University of Ife is a Federal Government Owned University founded in 1962 and was subsequently renamed Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 to commemorate the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. About Bowen University Bowen University popularly called BUI is the first Baptist University in the country.
