Tourist Destinations you Shouldn’t Miss in Rivers State

We always believe that it is only in Port Harcourt that tourism in River States can be enjoyed. That is not true because there are a lot of other places where you can actually have a great time. There are many water worlds all over the state where you can explore like the mangrove swamps and rivers. Not to forget that there are dense rainforests where you can find wild animals. Some of the places you should not miss in Rivers State include;

Upper Orashi Forest Reserve

In a village called Ikodi is where Upper Orashi Forest Reserve is located. This is where you can watch birds and has been considered as one of the best bird watching destinations in Nigeria. This is a freshwater swamp forest that has a lot of wildlife activities. You can see the red colobus monkeys, white-throated monkeys, giant forest hogs, Heslop’s pygmy hippopotamus, and yellow-backed duiker. You can find rare birds such as the blue-headed dove, Estrildapoliopareia, Spizactusafricanus, grey parrots, Hartlaub’s duck, serpent eagle, black-throated coucal, gaboonwoodpecker, Black-casqued Hornbill, lesser honey guide, red-rumpedtinker bird, blacked-capped yellow warbler, yellow-chinned sunbird and white-breasted Negro finch.

Zoological Garden

If you are in Port Harcourt, there are still some places you may want to see at Trans-Amadi , where the Zoological Garden is situated. This is where you find animals like gorillas, drill monkeys, elephants and many others. You would love the beauty of this place. Students who are looking for excursion ground are delighted when they come here.

Finima Beach

There is one beach in Bonny Island that makes a whole tourist sense; Finima Beach. Come here during Christmas period or even the Easter festive period and you would not want to leave the shores of this place. The natural wildlife and mangrove swamp has been preserved to ensure that tourists would have an opportunity to see Mother Nature in its unspoiled state.

Isaac Boro Garden Park

In honour of the legendary Isaac Boro is a park created to remember him. It is located in a place here the main motor park is situated, making movement easier. Trade fairs, music concerts and other social activities are often held here. There is a tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a monument for you to see in this park.
