History of Yakubu Gowon Stadium
Built in 2001.
Formerly known as Liberation Stadium, this is a multi-purpose stadium mostly for football matches and home to the Rivers United FC.
This is a very safe location.
A multisport edifice, the stadium has both sections of blue and red seating, and features a 30,000 seating capacity. It has a well-maintained grass turf with electronic scoreboards, floodlights, steel perimeter fencing and six exits leading straight roads.
Since its opening, the stadium has hosted some important tournaments including the Fifa Under-17 World Tournament 2009 and matches played by Dolphin FC in the Confederation of African Football Champions League 2012\. Whether you are looking to cheer on Rivers FC or simply passing through, the stadium is a 'must-see' for every football enthusiast.
