A sister college to King's College and one of the foremost secondary schools for girls education, it was initially named Government Secondary School for Girls. Coming into being to bridge the gap created by the limited scope of secondary education for girls at the time of inception, it has successfully played a major role in the lives of present doctors, engineers, lawyers and other professionals in all fields in Nigeria and beyond. Its curriculum which was developed by NERDC is technologically driven and geared towards meeting the needs of every child’s ability as well as the needs of the nation, laying emphasis on Technical and Vocational subjects, ICT, Sciences as well as Humanities. The college has also consistently excelled in sports, winning laurels and awards on both national and international levels. Following the school motto that says "Pass On The Torch", it is the alma mater to many great Nigerians including Prof. Grace Alele-Williams, Prisca Soares, Suzanne Iroche, Prof Elebute, and many others.
