Built by Federal Government in 1989.

One of the most famous prison in Nigeria, this has a Maximum Security area and a Medium Security area. Popular as the prison where prominent Nigerians end up, it is where lawbreakers are confined as the law dictates.

In the 1990s, it had an unsavory reputation as the place pro-democracy activists and critics of government were sent by the military regime. It features a prison Mosque, Church and Library.
