Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, is a federal polytechnic located at Birnin Kebbi. It was formerly called College of Technology. It currently comprises of four colleges which are: College of Administration, College of Engineering, College of Environmental Studies and College of Science & Technology. It also offers both part time programs.

History of Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi

Federal Polytechnic, Birnin-Kebbi was established in 1976 as a College of Technology by the then Sokoto State Government. The institution became a Polytechnic in April 1980 and was named “The Polytechnic of Sokoto State” but was later renamed following the creation of Kebbi State from the old Sokoto State, the school was renamed "The Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi" which was eventually changed to “Waziri Umaru Polytechnic” in January 2003 in honour of late Wazirin Gwandu, Alhaji Umaru Nassarawa(a renowned educationist in northern Nigeria).
