Oranmiyan Staff

Nice Things About Place
Sited in the Oranmiyan Shrine, it is above 18 feet in height and features some intricate designs on it, along with the name "Oranmiyan" engraved in Jewish letters. It is made up of granite with iron studs and has a square-shaped elevated demarcation made with stones. From atop the demarcation, there are three steps to walk down and get to the Staff. It is further demarcated by a metal chain. The base of the Staff is covered with white clothes. On the left is a small grove with tall trees shielding it from visitors. Walking further behind the Staff will lead to the inner sanctum said to be only for the initiates.

Reason For Loving Place
This Staff is of historic and cultural importance as it is believed to be the felled sword-turned-staff of the warrior Oranmiyan, the youngest son of the great Oduduwa and the third Ooni of Ife.
Reason To Recommend Place
It plays a socio-political role as it is consulted for the succession of new Ooni of Ife monarchs and the new monarch receives his staff of office from the grove. A popular tourist site, it is open to locals and foreigners alike for viewing.
