History of Awolowo's prison home

This was built in 18th century. It is notable as a museum that celebrates the life and times of chief Obafemi Awolowo.

  • Lekki town where the museum is loacted is a misnomer of the name of the Portuguese slave merchant, Mr Lecqi, who settled in the town in the 18th century.

  • The detention center for Awolowo in 1962 was Mr Lecqi's house before his death.

The museum aims to take you on a walk through his prison journey. After the tour, there is a beach behind where you can bask in the sun's radiance as you ponder the struggle of one of the nation's founding fathers.
