History of New Africa Shrine

This was built in 1970To celebrate music, freedom of speech.. It is notable as the home of Fela Anikulapo Kuti who celebrated freedom of speech and justice for the people.

  • The yearly Felabration event to honor the memory of Late Fela is hosted at the New African Shrine.

  • The original African Shrine built by Fela was burnt in 1977 by Nigerian Sodiers in response to the song 'Zombie' which mocked them.
