A man known as Ojo Isekuse who was one of the founding fathers of Ilorin devised a method for sharpening his knives with the use of a stone. About University of Ilorin The University of Ilorin, also known as Unilorin, was established in 1975. It is a public non-profit educational institution. The University started off with its first set of 200 students in three (3) faculties; Faculty of Arts, Science and Education on a portion of the temporary campus of the Kwara state polytechnic which was the only campus of the University until January 1982 when it moved to a permanent and conducive site due to the influx of more students to the institution. Following the addition of more faculties and departments over the years, Unilorin currently has over fifteen (15) faculties, a college of health science, two (2) institutes, and a school of postgraduate studies. These faculties offer over 60 departmental courses recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for various undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs which run for 3-5, or 6 years depending on the course undertaken.   Unilorin is located in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was one of the first few institutions established by the Federal Military Government of Nigeria in 1975 and has since risen up the ranks to be one of the best and most sought-after universities in the country. With an enrollment range of 25,000-29,999 students, Unilorin was rated as the best University of 2014/1015 academic session according to the 4IC rankings. Currently, the University ranks as the 5th best in the country, and 2,002 in the world according to the 4IC.org ranking. The University has a selective admission process with prospective students having to meet up with the prescribed JAMB cut-off mark, and also pass the entrance examination in order to be eligible for admission.   The University of Ilorin provides academic and non-academic facilities to staff and students alike. I’ll be dropping some general admission requirements for both prospective undergraduates and postgraduates. Admission Requirements for Undergraduates: Prospective candidates must obtain a minimum entry level requirement of 5’ Credits in SSCE/GCE/O’ level or its equivalent at no more than two sittings. The subjects passed must include a compulsory credit in Mathematics, English, and three other relevant subjects. Candidates must also sit for the compulsory JAMB examination, and must attain the prescribed cut-off mark. In addition, Unilorin conducts screening examination for all candidates at various schedules and the dates will be conveyed back to successful applicants.   Application forms for 2017/2018 academic session are currently closed. Further information about subsequent application process for prospective undergraduates can be found at https://uilugportal.unilorin.edu.ng/ Admission Requirements for Postgraduates: Prospective candidates are advised to go through the University’s website for further information about the degree programs and courses offered for postgraduate programs. A general requirement for applicants include the following: Candidates must be available when purchasing the application form and present their NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter. It is expected of candidates to fill the application form online and also scan original copies of relevant credentials. A hardcopy of the application form and all supporting documents should be forwarded to the secretary, school of postgraduate studies, and transcripts from institutions, forwarded to the HOD of the department of your choice. All candidates must also possess 5 O’ level credits in English, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects. Candidates for the Master degree program who are graduates of Unilorin or other recognized Universities must possess a minimum of Second Class Lower, and must be applying for programmes in which they had their first degree. Applicants wishing to be admitted into programmes other than their first degree can also be admitted provided they pass the Senate approved qualification examination. Applicants for Ph.D. degree programme must have a Master degree from the institution or any other institution recognized by the Senate with an average score of at least 60%.
