About The National Universities Commission The National Universities Commission is an important arm of government whose responsibility is the development and management of university education in Nigeria. The NUC grants approval for all academic programmes run in Nigerian universities, approves the establishment of all higher educational institutions offering degree programmes in Nigerian universities, ensures quality of all academic programmes offered in Nigerian universities as well as running other supervisory and inspectorate duties. History of The National Universities Commission The National Universities Commission was first established in 1962 as an advisory agency within the government's cabinet office but was then upgraded in 1974 to a full statutory body under the stewardship of Prof. Jibril Aminu. The NUC is currently headed by Professor Shehu Galadanchi with Prof. Abubakar Rasheed as its Executive Secretary. Here, you meet people from all parts of the country and learn and accept local customs and different cultures, make new friends, build camaraderie and learn what to expect during your service year. All through your stay in the camp, except Sunday worship mornings, you will wear your all-white tees, shorts and shoes. You will be served meals thrice daily but most Corpers prefer eating at the Mami Market where the choice and quality of food is better. There is always an activity for each time of the day, with brief moments in the evening allowed for personal use. Go to camp with an open mind and a thirst for adventure and you will enjoy it to the fullest.

Apart from the guarantee of safety, one also enjoys the abundant military disciple displayed in the camp. It is kept clean and noise is kept at a bare minimum. The health centres are also relatively cheaper and less crowded than private and public hospitals respectively. One can also befriend a soldier, enjoy their tales and company and even get fit under military supervision!
