About National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons

National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons is a government establishment tasked with tackling the problem of human trafficking in the country. The agency is responsible for enforcing the laws on human trafficking and also apprehend and prosecute offenders of the law. NAPTIP is also involved in counselling, providing shelter, rehabilitating and reintegrating victims of trafficking.

History of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons

National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons was established on 14th July, 2003, by the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act 2003. The Federal Government created the Agency to tackle problems in trafficking in persons especially women and children as they are most rampant. The Act that created National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons was as a result of a private bill of a non-governmental organisation WOTCLEF, sponsored at the National Assembly.
