About The National Sugar Development Council

The National Sugar Development Council is a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and  is responsible for the regulation of all activities ranging from production, marketing, importation & enforcement of relevant industry standards in the sugar sub-sector. The NSDC has consistently introduced policies and programmes to stimulate the local sugar production industry, encouraged greater private sector participation in sugar production while reducing direct government involvement and facilitated research and developmental programmes for improved output in the sugar industry.

History of The National Sugar Development Council

The National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) was established by DECREE 88 OF 1993 as a result of governments realization that an agency was needed to coordinate planning and control of the sugar sub sector. The hitherto disharmony and ineffectiveness had caused a huge deficit in supply of sugar relative to its demand in  Nigeria. The NSDC's mandate was to effect a turnaround in this dynamic.
