History of The Legal Aid Council of NigeriaThe concept behind the establishment of the council could said to have been birthed following a comment by the then Chief Justice of Nigeria in 1961.The Legal Aid Act No. 56 of 1976 was promulgated by the then Head of the Federal Military Government, General Olusegun Obasanjo on 10th November 1976.Dr. Augustine Nnamani J.S.C. the then Attorney General of the Federation however brought the provisions of the Legal Aid Act into force, on the 2nd day of May 1977.
