About The Standards Organization of Nigeria
The Standards Organization of Nigeria is the apex standardisation body in Nigeria. SON ensures that locally manufactured products are of the required level to consumers through compliance with government policies on standardisation and that goods imported into Nigeria meet the minimum requirements of Nigerian industrial standards or any other approved international standards. The SON organizes tests, investigate the quality of facilities, materials and products, register and regulate standard marks and specifications, organizes mass inspections and even destructions of substandard goods.
History of The Standards Organization of Nigeria
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria was first conceived by the Enabling Act No. 56 of 1971. It was then fully enabled by The SON Act Cap. S9 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, which has been reviewed by the present SON Act Cap. S9 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
