Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research is a multidisciplinary marine research institute and Nigeria's main institution for the Marine Sciences. It is charged with researching the abundance, distribution, biological and other characteristics of species of fish and other marine forms of life as well as management measures for their conservation. - the physical characteristics of the Nigerian territorial waters, topography of the sea beds and deposits on / or under the sea beds. - effect of pollution on the health of Nigerian coastal waters and its prevention amongst many other functions.
