The National Universities Commission is an important arm of government whose responsibility is the development and management of university education in Nigeria. The NUC grants approval for all academic programmes run in Nigerian universities, approves the establishment of all higher educational institutions offering degree programmes in Nigerian universities, ensures quality of all academic programmes offered in Nigerian universities as well as running other supervisory and inspectorate duties.
History of The National Universities Commission
The National Universities Commission was first established in 1962 as an advisory agency within the government's cabinet office but was then upgraded in 1974 to a full statutory body under the stewardship of Prof. Jibril Aminu. The NUC is currently headed by Professor Shehu Galadanchi with Prof. Abubakar Rasheed as its Executive Secretary.

National Universities Commission is located in Abuja North-Central of Nigeria.Thus, it experiences three weather conditions every year. This includes a warm, humid rainy season and a blistering dry season. In between the two, there is a brief interlude of harmattan occasioned by the northeast trade wind, with the main feature of dust haze and dryness. Temperatures can drop to as low as 16 degrees during the harmattan period.
