The airline was established in 1984 as British Atlantic Airways. It was originally intended by its co-founders Randolph Fields and Alan Hellary to fly between London and the Falkland Islands. The first flight by Virgin Atlantic was from London Gatwick to Newark Liberty International Airport took place on 22 June 1984. Virgin Atlantic entertains kids on board with films, TV shows and games. There is also a parental lock functionality on seats to keep kids in place.
All children on flights leaving the UK get a free backpack crammed with exciting things to keep them occupied. Inside the backpacks are:

Meals for Kids
Virgin Atlantic make provisions for kids' meals for kids on-board.
They offer baby meals especially for kids under 12 months which include standard pureed or bottled foods. They do not offer solid foods.
The meals for kids might not be edible to kids who are vegetarians, hence they would need to go for the standard vegetarian option. For the standard vegetarian option to be available, reservations have to be made during booking.
They also offer meals for children aged between 12 months and 12 years. Children's meals are not booked automatically.
Seats for Children
Virgin Atlantic offer car seats on-board to kids who need them as long as a reservation has earlier been made for it. They also allow passengers to bring their own car seats for their children on-board on all international and domestic flights.
However, the seat has to meet the airlines' specification before it can be ?allowed on board. They also provide on-board bassinets / baby cots.
Disabled seating
Disabled customers could call the Virgin Atlantic special assistance team to secure a seat that would be convenient for them. Virgin Atlantic aircraft are fitted with movable-armrest seats and ?fixed-armrest seats. These options are available for the disabled customers depending on the level of their mobility.
Support seating
For travellers that need spinal support or posture control to sit upright, Virgin Atlantic provides Burnett body support for adults and the travel chair for children.
The Burnett Body Support are for passengers that are 12 years and above.
Accessible Toilets
The toilets are accessible to disabled travellers. The Airbus planes operating long haul routes are equipped with one fully wheelchair-accessible toilet.
The?Boeing 747-400 aircraft have partially accessible toilets.

Virgin Atlantic offer convenient ways for customers to check in for their flight. Check in can now be done at the terminal or still at the hotel. The check-in options available are:

FLYING WITH CHILDREN
Virgin Atlantic categorizes passengers under 2 years as being infants, and passengers between 2 and 11 years as being children.
Infants
Infants pay 10% of the child fare. They are usually not compelled to pay for a seat, and can sit on an adult's lap.
An adult travelling with two infants must purchase a seat for one of them and will pay a child fare.
Children
Virgin Atlantic offers discounts to children according to the routes they are flying. The discount is usually between 25% and 50% of the Adult fare.
Unaccompanied Minor Service
The unaccompanied minor service is offered by Virgin Atlantic to children travelling alone. Children between 5 and 11 years, according to the airlines policy cannot travel alone, and hence would need to subscribe to the service.
Children aged between 12 and 18 years may choose to use the unaccompanied minors service, if they wish. It is not compulsory.
It is important to note that:
The parent/guardian of the unaccompanied minor must stay at the airport until the child's flight has departed.
Children under 5 must always travel with someone aged 18 or over.
Children aged 5 to 18 are regarded as unaccompanied minors ?even if their parents or guardians are travelling on the same flight, but in a different cabin.
Once landed, another member of Virgin Atlantic staff will take them through immigration and customs and hand them over to the adult noted on the Declaration of Indemnity form.
The Unaccompanied Minor service is charged as an adult fare.
FLYING WITH PETS
Accepted breeds
Virgin Atlantic only accept cats and dogs on the flights. They do not accept snub or pug nose breeds like Pekingese or Persians, or any dog listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
Booking must be done at least 7 days to departure.
The pets can be flown to or from any of these destinations:
Atlanta, Antigua, Barbados, Boston, Detroit, Dubai, Hong Kong, JFK, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, Orlando, San Francisco, Seattle, St Lucia, and Washington.
