Writer's Review A place somewhat reserved for the rich and the super rich, this is the perfect resting place to honor departed loved ones. History of Ikoyi Cemetery Ikoyi Cemetery. One of Lagos' oldest functional graveyards, this tranquil and beautiful cemetery is a major landmark and final resting place for a lot of prominent Nigerians. Best Features Boasting a clean and lush green environment with a well thought-out graveyard, this is a non-sectarian cemetery that provides comfort to the dead, the bereaved and the public as a whole. Steeped in history, many founding personalities in Nigeria were interred here including Herbert Macaulay, Henry Carr, Orlando Martins, Candido Da Rocha and many more. It also contains the graves of 9 casualties of the First World War and 27 of the Second World War. Over the years, it has steadily been expanded to accommodate more graves and recently, a new elitist section was made.

History of Atan Cemetery Atan Cemetery was established in 1868. Built by British Colonialists in 1868. Covering about 25 hectares of land, Atan Cemetery is one of the oldest cemetery of its kind in Nigeria. It contains the largest concentration of the Second World War II graves in Nigeria, numbering about 411. Security/Safety of Atan Cemetery This is a very safe location. Best Features A notable landmark in the Yaba environs, this public cemetery is the final resting place of a lot of Nigerians and even foreigners. It features a portion reserved for the British Government and maintained by the Common Wealth office for the burial of Nigerian soldiers who died in the service of the British Crown. Writer's Review Broken into sections, with one being for 'all-comers' and the other reserved for the private and rich people, there is a spot that fits whatever budget you have. While the public section is rundown, overgrown with weeds and bad management, the private section which is run by Ebony Casket Ventures, is well-maintained and manned with all-day security.
