ABOUT
The Bar Beach is a white sand beach in the Lagos State of Nigeria. It is located at Victoria Island, Lagos. Bar Beach, Lagos has served a variety of purposes in the History of Nigeria. During the military regime in the 1970s and 1980s, the bar beach served as a public execution centre of the Nigerian Army Firing Squad. Convicted persons were led to the beach where they were executed. One of those persons was the famed serial killer, Lawrence Anini. The Bar Beach was very popular in the 70s and 90s as journalists trooped in to capture each dreadful execution event.In 2008, the federal government commenced the construction of a new residential and commercial area on the Bar Beach, known as Eco Atlantic City. The Eco Atlantic City was built on a 10 million square metres of land retrieved from the sea. In 2016, the Eco Atlantic City was commissioned by the former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode. However, due to the poor design of the city, it has witnessed several bouts of flooding. The constant flooding of the Eco Atlantic district has lead to the destruction of lives and property which has provoked severe criticism by the inhabitants of the state.

Currently, the construction of the Eco Atlantic City is on-going at the Bar Beach. There are no picnickers, horse rides or games for fun activities, only a large perimeter fence spanning the length of the Bar Beach.

The Bar Beach is open to everyone ranging from singles to large families or groups.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The Bar Beach is closed to leisure seekers as construction activities are still on-going at the site. Also, security personnel guide the guard the entrance and exit points on the perimeter fence to prevent any form of intrusion, or activities which may hinder construction activities at the site.SAFETY
The Bar Beach is famed for its occasional flooding which has claimed lives and led to the destruction of property. These are the only perks of visiting this area.
