Reason For Loving Place
This is one of the initial twelve federal universities in Nigeria founded in 1975\. It currently has four campuses. The main campus houses the administrative offices, sciences, social sciences, agriculture, arts and languages, education and research facilities. The city campus hosts the college of health sciences and school of veterinary medicine. A third site host the modern and famous university teaching hospital (one of the largest hospitals in Nigeria, and even West Africa). The fourth site site houses the School of Matriculation Studies where students opting for the Remedial Studies are admitted and taught before enrollment in the university.

The university is one of the highest ranking in northern Nigeria due to its high moral stand, academic excellence and its ability to resist the prevalent ASUU strikes that bedevil Nigerian government universities.
