How to Apply for a Germany Residence Permit as a Nigerian

The Germany Residence Permit is available to Nigerians traveling to the country with the intention to work or study. Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. It has over 2 millennia of history and it has granted a lot of third-world nationals the access to work and study in the country.

The Germany Residence Permit is also known as an EU Blue Card (European Union Blue Card).

Types of Germany Residence Permit

There are different types of Germany Residence Permit, this depends on your length of stay and where you want to take up residence. Here are the types of residence permit:

  • Germany Temporary Residence Permit

The Germany Temporary Residence Permit is for Nigerians who want to reside in Germany for a limited period. This permit is issued to Nigerians wishing to reside in Germany for specific purposes such as study purposes, temporary employment and humanitarian/political purposes. This permit can be extended only during special circumstances. For example if a student is yet to complete their education.

  • Germany Permanent Settlement Permit

A Germany Permanent Settlement Permit is a residence permit that allows Nigerians stay in Germany for an unlimited period of time.

  • Germany ICT Card

The Germany ICT card is a temporary residence permit for workers transferred to Germany to work for a branch of the company they work for in their home country. It can be issued for up to three years of residence

  • Germany Mobile ICT Card

The Germany Mobile ICT Card is a residence permit for temporary stay in Germany. It is granted to Nigerians who have a valid residence title issued by another country and wish to move to Germany for the purpose of an intra-corporate transfer.

How to Apply for a Germany Residence Permit

Here are the documents needed to apply for a Germany Residence Permit:

  • A passport with the validity of at least 10 years.
  • One 35mm x 45mm passport-sized photo.
  • Proof of sufficient funds in form of bank statements.
  • Proof of employment.
  • Proof of health insurance with minimum coverage of at least 10,000 Euros.
  • Proof of residence.
  • Completed residence permit application form.
  • Completed employment permission form.
  • Completed job description form.
  • Certificate of enrollment at your university (for students).
  • Proof of a clean police record.

  • German Temporary Residence permit
    • Valid for up to 1 year ? 50 Euros
    • Valid for more than 1 year- 60 Euros
    • Extension for up to 3 additional months ? 15 Euros
    • Extension for more than 3 additional months ? 30 Euros
    • Change of residence title, including its extension ? 40 Euros
  • EU long-term residence permit ? 85 Euros
  • EU Blue Card
    • The initial application ? 100 Euros
    • Extension for up to 3 months ? 96 Euros
    • Extension for more than 3 months ? 93 Euros
