Nigerians love to travel abroad, and vacation periods in Nigeria are usually results in many people jetting out to foreign countries to relax and to have fun. And on their way back, Nigerians always ensure they come back with souvenirs of their trips abroad. This post is about the top 6 items Nigerians shop for abroad in no particular order.

Clothes

This is arguably the most bought commodity by Nigerians who travel. Foreign clothes can also be bought in Nigeria via online shops or retail shops in the major cities, however, the additional costs of shipping make it more expensive, making buying it from the source a lucrative alternative. Shopping for clothes is one of the major reasons why some Nigerians even travel out of the country. Dubai, London and China are some of the major locations Nigerians travel to for clothes.

Clothing accessories

As with clothes, Nigerians also love the accessories that go with them. Shoes, bags, bracelets, caps and hats, wristwatches and other accessories are some of the things Nigerians buy when they travel to other countries especially China and the United States. Buying these items in those countries is often cheaper than buying in Nigeria with the added benefit of authenticity.

Prescribed drugs

Many Nigerians engage in medical tourism. It is common to find Nigerians shopping in dispensaries and chemist shops in London for specific drugs that are not common in Nigeria or are too expensive here. Shopping for prescribed drugs is one of the major stuff Nigerians shop for when they travel abroad.

Rare objects and paintings

Many people find it hard to believe that Nigerians are very art-loving. Paintings, carvings, sculptures, amulets, special bracelets, charms and other rare objects are some of the objects Nigerians crave and often travel abroad in search of. Many Nigerians who can afford to travel abroad on holiday usually have very deep pockets and can afford to indulge. In London, Paris and Vienna, Nigerians can be found scouring through the art galleries and exhibitions looking for rare objects to buy.

Mobile devices, Laptops and other electronics

Smartphones and tablets are some of the items many Nigerians love to buy when they travel to foreign countries like China, the United States and Dubai. Ordering those items from those countries often incurs extra charges which Nigerians can be very expensive. It is not uncommon to find Nigerians giving a friend or relation who is travelling out of the country a long list and the necessary cash to buy a new laptop or game console from a foreign country on her way back.

Cars

In Nigeria, road transportation is the major mode of transportation and Nigerians can often be found shopping at used car lots in Texas and Canada for new models to bring back with them to Nigeria. Though they often arrive without the cars and in some instances, after the cars, but car shopping is one of the biggest parts of the Nigerian experience in foreign countries.
