GETTING FROM LAX TO LOS ANGELES CITY CENTRE

Los Angeles International Airport is located in the southwestern Los Angeles area along the Pacific Ocean, 24km from the City Centre. LAX has nine passenger terminals arranged in the shape of the letter U or a horseshoe. Public transportation

Public transportation is in Los Angeles is handled by LA?s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (known as Metro), or the municipal Big Blue Bus company (bigbluebus.com)?in Santa Monica. Metro?s base fare is $1.75 ($7/25 for an unlimited day/week pass). Big Blue Bus fares are a cool $1.25. On the Metro Rail network of light-rail and subway lines, the Red, Gold and Expo Lines are most useful for visitors as they travel to the areas with most tourist-friendly attractions. The Metro Red Line, L.A.'s first subway, opened a highly publicised Hollywood-Universal City extension in 2000. The line begins at Union Station, the city's main train depot, and travels west underneath Wilshire Boulevard, looping north into Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley. The Metro Purple Line subway starts at Union Station, shares six stations with the Red Line Downtown, and continues to the Mid-Wilshire area. The Metro Green Line runs for 20 miles along the centre of I-105, the Glenn Anderson (Century) Freeway, and connects Norwalk in eastern Los Angeles County to LAX and Redondo Beach. A connection with the Blue Line offers visitors access from LAX to Downtown L.A. or Long Beach. The Metro Gold Line is a 14-mile link between Pasadena and Union Station in Downtown L.A. Stops include Old Pasadena, the Southwest Museum, and Chinatown. The Metro Blue Line, a mostly above ground rail line, connects Downtown Los Angeles with Long Beach. LOS ANGELES TRAVEL TIPS

Hours?of Operation Many L.A. museums are closed on Monday and major holidays. A few of the preeminent art museums, including the Norton Simon and Los Angeles County Museum of Art, stay open on Monday. Instead, the Norton Simon is closed Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Museum on Wednesday. Most museums close around 5 or 6 pm, staying open late at least one night a week. Most shops are open on Sunday, though they may have earlier hours. Despite the high energy level of the L.A. nightlife crowd, it is still an early-to-bed city. Bars close at 2 am.   Tipping and Taxes In most restaurants, it is customary to tip the waiter 16%?20%. ?Note that checks for parties of six or more sometimes include the tip already. Tip at least $1 per drink at the bar, and $1 for each coat checked.
