Complete list of Nigerian celebrities and top government officials who tested positive for the Coronavirus disease

Since the first COVID-19 virus case was recorded in Nigeria on the 27th of February 2020, the number of confirmed cases keeps increasing exponentially. As at 10:30 pm on the 30th of March, the total number of verified cases reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) was 131.

Most of the people who tested positive for the coronavirus disease are people with recent international travel history or close associates of the former. Among these people are notable personalities in Nigeria.

In no particular order, here is a comprehensive list of celebrities who have tested positive for the coronavirus disease in Nigeria.

Abba Kyari

Abba kyari

Abba Kyari is a Nigerian politician currently serving as Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR). On March 24, 2020, it was announced to the general public that he tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Reports also have it that the Chief of Staff recently returned from a trip to Germany nine days before. He was later moved from Abuja to Lagos on the 29th of March where the infectious disease can be properly managed.

Nasir El-Rufai

The executive governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, disclosed via his verified twitter handle that he had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Bala Mohammed

The current Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, was announced positive for coronavirus disease on Tuesday, 24 March 2020. It was said that the Governor had returned to Bauchi from an official trip to Lagos after he met with the ex-vice president Atiku?s son (who also tested positive for the coronavirus) on the plane where both men shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.

Seyi Makinde

Seyi Makinde, the executive governor of Oyo State

The current executive governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Gov. Seyi Makinde also tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The governor revealed via his twitter account on 30th March 2020, that his test result showed that he had been infected with the coronavirus. He also added that he is not symptomatic and would continue to observe self-isolation.

Chioma Rowland

Chioma, Davido's fiancee

Chioma, the fiancee of the popular Nigerian hip-hop star musician, David Adeleke (popularly called Davido), has also tested positive for the coronavirus disease. Davido reported from his verified Instagram handle that his girlfriend tested positive after he and the 31 people on his team decided to get tested following a trip from abroad to Lagos.

Professor Jesse Otegbayo

Jesse Otegbayo, the Chief Medical director of UCH, Ibadan

Prof. Jesse Otegbayo is the Chief Medical Director of University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan. He confirmed that he has tested positive for the new coronavirus disease in an online statement aired to the general public on the 29th of March 2020.

Muhammed Babandede

Muhammed Bandede, the chief comptroller Nigeria Immigration Service

Muhammed Babandede is the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service. According to him, he had been self-isolating since the return from a trip to the United Kingdom on March 22.

Prof. Ezekiel Olapade-Olaopa

The current provost of the University of Ibadan College of Medicine, Prof Ezekiel has also tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Reports have it that he is not showing symptoms and the case is being managed.

Prof. Obafunke Denloye

Prof. Obafunke is the deputy provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He's also part of the top UI officials who tested positive for coronavirus disease.
