Nigeria to The Maldives: A Tourist?s Experience

by Mosimileoluwa Alabi/February 21 03:58 PM Last updated on ?A Holiday in The Maldives would be perfect for you and Nadu?, said Bella one cool evening. I had just spoken to her about how lost Nadu, my husband was in deciding on what country to pick for our honeymoon. We got married a week before but had to push our honeymoon a bit further due to work deadlines and all. I did not really buy the idea because I wanted a place that was closer to Nigeria. ?Stop having second thoughts, tell Nadu about it and thank me later. I want to spend a night in one of the top hotels in Lagos. See it as your appreciation gift to me? She smirked. ?How do I know I?d enjoy my stay in The Maldives and secondly, how on earth would I know top hotels in Lagos?? I queried her. ?Are you living in the ?70s? Aunty, visit hotels.ng to view top hotels in Lagos and book one for me when you return plus forget about your first question, you?d definitely enjoy your stay? She replied. Bella is my best friend and most times I trust her judgment. I decided to tell my husband and surprisingly, he agreed to it. I feel it?s because the Maldives is one of the countries that offer tourist visa on arrival for a period of 30 days. Meaning, you do not have to go through the hassle of visiting an embassy and going for interviews. Click here to read on visa-free countries Nigerians can visit. We fixed our travel for the first week in March, which is one of the best months to visit the country. Where is the Maldives? Before we go in-depth into my experience of the Maldives, I?d love to share basic information that gives you a better understanding of this awesome city. The Maldives is a small island country in South Asia, located next to India and Sri Lanka. It is also known as the Republic of Maldives. This beautiful country consists of about 1192 coral islands scattered across the Indian Ocean-only 200 islands are inhabited, the others are majorly used for tourism and agriculture. It is a tropical paradise having immaculate beaches, blue-green lagoons and the most amazing beach resorts, making it the perfect honeymoon for me and my husband. Although Islam is the official religion of The Maldives, tourists are not restricted to practicing it. The capital and largest city of the country is Male. After my research on the Maldives archipelago, I discovered that there are about 90 resorts in the Maldives. We settled for Anantara Kihavah Villas located in Kihavah Huravalhi Island, not just because it is one of the best resorts for a romantic getaway but it is also about 35 minutes from the Male International Airport, Male by speedboat. The 2 days spent in the beautiful archipelago were literally the best 2 days of my life. Getting to the Maldives Travelling from Nigeria to the Maldives was easier than I imagined. All we needed were valid passports, proof of sufficient funds, and valid health certificates. That sounds super easy yeah? We packed our bags, headed for the airport, paid our flight tickets and boarded our flight from Muritala Mohammed Airport, Lagos and off we went to the beautiful country of Maldives. We spent about 17 hours in the air (all to go on this beautiful journey to the other side of the world) after which we landed at the Male International Airport. On getting to the airport, the resort we booked to stay sent a representative with a boat to escort us there. The boat ride from the airport to the resort lasted for about 35 minutes. Things to do in the Maldives Anantara Kihavah Villas Traveling to the Maldives was very pivotal to my peace of mind as it helped me disconnect from the hustle and bustle of Lagos and reconnect with myself by getting completely immersed in the beautiful and exotic island we stayed in. On our first day, we did not do much as we were totally exhausted from the flight. So, we had dinner and slept. The next morning, I felt rejuvenated and was surprised to wake up to the beautiful soothing sound of water below the villa-we chose the overwater villa. The staff was friendly. I realized that the bathroom in the overwater villa is next to the private swimming pool which means from your bathtub, you could swim out into the pool!! Dolphin Watching One of the best things to do on your holiday in the Maldives is to watch wildlife and I love Dolphins so why not? This was the first thing we did in the morning of the second day. We saw spinner dolphins and bottlenose dolphins. The dolphins seemed to like us and stayed around for a while. Bike Around The resort Islands in the Maldives may be small but are not too small for driving a bike. The piers and sand paths offer the best biking experience. Riding a bike on these piers gave me a feeling of riding to heaven.  Go Snorkeling Snorkelling while on a holiday in the Maldives is something you shouldn?t miss. I missed it though as there are certain places in the country that are perfect for Snorkeling. I was not in that part of the archipelago. However, if you plan to have a holiday in the Maldives, Baros Maldives and ?Bandos Maldives have the best snorkelling reefs. Underwater Dining at Anantara Kihavah Underwater Restaurant in Anantara Kihavah Villas On the 3rd day, I had the memorable experience of dining underwater with Nadu. Anantara Kihavah Villas has the first underwater wine cellar and offers the best romantic experience for couples. I fell in love over again when I saw big fishes swim past as I was enjoying my delicious meal and sipping wine. Trust me; It is a beautiful sight to behold. Cinemas under the Sky Movies under the sky in the Maldives I really do not enjoy going to see movies in a cinema but the idea of having it under the sky, while listening to the gentle sounds of waves lapping the beach was something I had to experience. It was undoubtedly surreal. Sinking into oversized bean bags while enjoying popcorns and beverages, I watched Crazy Rich Asians for the one-millionth time. Sunset Cocktails In the evening, we had cocktails at the rooftop of the restaurant. We watched the sunset in the most amazing setting. Trust me; this is a perfect way to end the day. I really wished we could stay for longer but our flight back to Lagos was scheduled for the next day. Ohh and yes, I booked Bella a room in Golden Tulip hotels as my experience in the Maldives was incredible and I absolutely had the time of my life. Since a holiday in the Maldives is uncomplicated and relaxed-the complete definition of a stress-free life, I plan to go back to the country, on solo travel though. The country consists of nine inhabited islands and one uninhabited island making it an archipelago. This beautiful archipelago is known for its volcanic islands and warm tropical climate. The islands include Santo Antao, Sao Nicolau, Brava, Santa Luzia, Maio, Sal, Boa Vista, Santiago, Fogo and Sao Vicente. Cape Verde islands are places of striking differences, with each of the islands offering unique experiences to visitors. Its picturesque beaches, mouth-watering delicacies and attractive villages all make it a perfect holiday destination. Holidays in Cape Verde are full of fun, sand and sun. Where is Cape Verde? Shaped like a horseshoe, Cape Verde lies off the West Coast of Africa, in the Atlantic Ocean. It is bordered by Senegal, Guinea, The Gambia and Guinea Bissau. The archipelago was uninhabited until the 15th century when explorers from Portuguese discovered and took over the islands. This is why Portuguese is the official language used in formal settings in the country. However, Cape Verdean Creole is also widely spoken. Due to its strategic location, Cape Verde is quite difficult to spot on the map of Africa; this does not mean the country does not have a lot to offer. Cape Verdeans have a unique sense of belonging-being partly European and partly African with about 70% of the population being of mixed race. Jobs in Canada that are easy to get for Nigerian immigrants

by Rebecca/January 24 02:14 PM Last updated on There are lots of jobs in Canada that you can easily get, so long as you have the right information and an accurate qualification. Canada actively seeks foreign workers and professionals to help grow its strong national workforce. This means that it is much easier to be gainfully employed in Canada as a foreign national. You should know that a work permit is needed before you can be able to work in Canada. You can apply for a temporal work permit, permanent residence through the skilled worker category, or provincial nomination which allows you the right to work in Canada. Canada commits $10 million to help newcomers find work and enter the job market faster. This tells you that the job environment in Canada is really conducive to foreign nationals.  There are lots of benefits that come with obtaining a Canadian work permit that goes beyond employment alone. Working in Canada affords you a chance at permanent residence en route to citizenship. There are as well very strict labor laws in Canada that protect workers from labor injustices. All members of the Canadian workforce are protected by the Canadian labor standards that defend the right of employees and ensure fair and equitable treatment regarding employment conditions. When you consider the strength of the Canadian economy and the abundance of available jobs the salaries and wages are fair compared to what is obtainable in many countries. The lowest basic minimum wage in Canada is C$15 per hour. It?s easy to get jobs in Canada, with a little perseverance of course. While having a degree will definitely give you an edge in terms of getting a job and a promotion, having no degree, on the other hand, will also provide you more opportunities for jobs. One very important thing to note though is that it is strongly impossible to get a job in Canada from outside Canada. Canadian employers don?t have the time or resources to try to verify out-of-country references/qualifications, especially those in an unfamiliar language. Nor are they willing to hire someone they have never met since collaborative teamwork is an important part of Canadian workplaces. You can check out the article below on how to get a Canadian work permit without a job offer. https://hotels.ng/guides/can-i-get-a-canadian-work-permit-without-a-job-offer/ Most available jobs in Canada never get advertised publicly as well. It is what they refer to as the hidden job market, so don?t sit at home waiting for that job to come and find you. Networking is very crucial to finding jobs in Canada. You need to get your name out there across your industry so that when a job comes up, you are in a position to be called in. Anyone who tells you different - especially if they're asking you for money to find you a job in Canada - is probably trying to scam you to get your money. College or Vocational Instructor Instructing at the college and vocational level is one of the careers in demand in Canada thanks, in large part, to growing retirement rates among the current workforce. According to data from 2016, half of the workforce is over the age of 46, and many instructors retire around 64 years old. During the 2017-to-2026 period, the country could be short of about 3,500 instructors. And that number could grow as provincial and federal governments continue to reinforce the post-secondary system. Registered nurse When it comes to the most-needed jobs in Canada, nursing may very well top the list. Two major factors drive the demand for more nurses. The first one is that baby boomers ( those individuals born between 1946 and 1964) are reaching retirement age. As a result, it's expected that more and more nurses who are a part of that generation will soon be retiring from their jobs. In 2016, the median age of registered nurses (RNs) in Canada was almost 42. So roughly half of the RN workforce is between about 42 and 65 years old. Plus, a substantial number of RNs retire before the age of 65. (The median retirement age was 62 in 2016.)2 https://hotels.ng/guides/my-experience-as-a-nurse-immigrating-to-canada/ The second major factor that's driving nursing demand is Canada's overall aging population. Seniors and elderly people typically have higher health care needs than those in the younger generations. So, as baby boomers continue to age, it's expected that the demand for medical care will grow, resulting in a number of new jobs. In fact, from 2017 to 2026, there could be a shortage of about 13,200 registered nurses across the country. Licensed Practical Nurse Licensed practical nursing is up near the top of the list of the most in-demand jobs in the country?for the same reasons as registered nursing. An aging population is placing more demands on the health care system, and a retiring workforce is creating a need to replace workers. Although the licensed practical nurse (LPN) workforce is younger than the RN one, a growing number of retirements is still expected in the coming years. In fact, from 2017 to 2026, about 4,300 LPN jobs could go unfilled across the country due to a labor shortage.2 So, if you want to make a difference and play an important role in the delivery of high-quality health care, then becoming an LPN could be an incredible opportunity. Business Management Consultant In an expanding global marketplace that's becoming increasingly competitive, it's more important than ever for businesses to be lean and productive. In order to achieve that goal, businesses often hire management consultants to help them. Due to an expected increase in the demand for professional consulting services, combined with workers retiring and transitioning to other positions, management consulting is one of the top jobs in demand. Occupational or Physiotherapy Assistant Overall, the senior and elderly population is living longer. And many of those Canadians want to enjoy healthy lifestyles for as long as possible. Occupational and physiotherapy assistants often play a part in making that happen. Additionally, hospitals have moved toward outpatient care models in order to free up beds, so they frequently offer occupational therapy and physiotherapy services as a part of that strategy. Psychologist With more attention being paid to issues of mental health and wellness in all sectors of the population, psychologists will have one of the most in-demand jobs in Canada for the next five years. In fact, government projections show that as many as 1,100 jobs may go unfilled between 2017 and 2026 due to a shortage of trained psychologists. Truck Driver The Canadian economy relies on truck drivers, but there may not be enough young adults entering the trucking industry in order to fill the gap from retiring workers. In 2016, the median age of transport truck drivers was almost 46 years old. So approximately half of the truck-driving workforce is between the age of 46 and 65. That means a substantial number of workers will be retiring in the coming decades. It's why the country could be short almost 11,500 truckers during the period from 2017 to 2026 Other jobs that are in demand in Canada include legislators, senior managers, human resources managers, telecommunication carriers, administrators, library managers, construction managers, executive assistants, insurance underwriters, chemists, architects, dentists and a whole lot. You don't want to find just any job. You want to explore careers in demand so that you pick a field that has greater potential for job security and high pay. Many of the in-demand jobs in Canada for the next five years offer great earning opportunities since employers need to attract and retain quality workers due to anticipated labor shortages.  If you know of any other easily accessible jobs in Canada, kindly include them in the comment section.

I never would have used travel agencies in Lagos till I found this

by Rebecca/January 21 10:48 AM Last updated on Travel agencies keep popping up from different angles, each one coming up to offer a unique travel service to ensure they sell and perform better than their competitors. And since the population in Lagos is estimated at around 21 million, it is no surprise that most of them have their offices and even their headquarters in Lagos. But then, as the local woman that I am, I can?t afford to be caught off guard because I asked someone to do for me, what I could have easily done myself. So I have always thought as I had a very big resentment towards the travel agency and didn?t even want to hear any company with a travel anything attached to them. To me, they were just a lazy set of people sitting comfortably somewhere known only by the heavens and collecting money from a lazy set of Nigerians who would rather be duped, than put effort to ensure their money goes to good use. I used to shade everyone who came to meet me to say they met with so and so agent from XYZ travel company, to help them with their travel details and plans. I would hiss and say "small travel, you cannot do by yourself". Laugh if you will, just don?t mind me. I thought it was a child's play until I had to sort travel details out myself. I would gladly have loved to be duped at a point in time because it was not nearly as easy as I thought. I would wake up early in the morning hoping that all I had to do was go to the embassy. Every new morning I got to the embassy just to realize there was this particular weird document I should possess but had no idea of. I?d have to go back home and run around trying to get that document. It was the best time to get exploited if you wanted quick attention. My eyes saw things and my pockets felt lighter. The funny thing about the whole story is that you will ask someone what documents are needed and they will give you a detailed list. You will take it happily thinking that was all you needed. Till a fellow sister will ask you if you know you need another document and you will be like, where is this one coming from again now. You will get everything all the sisters, brothers, mothers and fathers tell you to get and the embassy will still say your documents are incomplete. I cried, so many times, I gave up, so many times and I honestly wished and hoped someone somewhere would just take the stress off my hands. At that stage, I didn?t even care about the amount they will charge, I just wanted to be free of the stress. It was during this very depressing period of my life that I got to know that there was an organization called the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies that served as a checkmate for all the travel agencies around Nigeria. Not only that, they work to promote the interest of the agencies under them, serve as a mouthpiece for the agencies, regulate their activities, maintain discipline and professionalism in the industry. I mean, the agencies as long as they were fully registered, could be held accountable for every wrong step they take. Why did no one ever tell me that? I even got to know that this NANTA is recognized by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Universal Federation of Travel Agents (UFTAA.) With all these recognitions, I wonder why I had put myself through all the stress. I mean, with one agency, I could get all the connections needed to make all things easy for me. I felt pained and used. This was just the beginning of revelation for me. I then realized that they really were not lazy, they did a whole lot of work. They had an image to uphold and they could not afford to disappoint those they represented. And they even ensured they covered all the angles. Some travel agencies have a physical travel center located at International airports for customer?s convenience, they even allow for installment payments for travels. Like how wonderful can that be? There are travel agencies that go as far as helping with travel cards, travel sims, and loyalty programs. Like, these agencies think it all through for you and all you have to do is pay for their service and you get all you need to make your travel experience as pleasing and pleasurable as possible. Personally, I would not think of a travel sim until I get to my destination and have issues calling out or so. Then I will start another round of stress and struggle, for something I could have easily paid for and had sorted out earlier. Then there are travel agencies who render various services like flight bookings, hotels, local and international flight ticketing. I mean, you have one travel agency that will book a flight for me and then sort all the details out just like hotel.ng does. All I will be required to do is make my details available and then myself at the right time. Please where have I been living all these while, struggling to decide on the hotel closest to my location, when an option like this is available. That?s not the last of it, I also heard there are travel agencies that have a one-stop booking portal. In case you don?t know, that means that on one website, you can book a flight and then go ahead to book a hotel room at your destination. It takes away the stress of going to the airport or trying to find various means to book a flight. Then you get to your destination and have to carry your heavy bags up and about trying to get and search for hotels closest to you. So much stress just for your comfort. Then there is the ease that comes with airport transfers. You get to the airport and you find yourself an awaiting vehicle to deliver you to your destination, wherever that is. I was opportune to be treated like that and I honestly felt like a celebrity. I didn?t have to start struggling to get a cab and handling all my luggage at the same time. I had a vehicle waiting just for me, It was an incredible feeling! The visa processing service rendered by travel agencies was the game changer for me and pulled me in to love them as much as I do now. After all the stress I?ve put myself through because I was too old to get help from the right source, this was the saving grace for me. It took a whole lot of stress off me. I saved my energy for the interview, I had a guide all through the process and I did not even spend as much as I did when I tried to do it all o my own. Then there are travel agents that provide car rentals for their customers. This means that if you would rather have a car to yourself at your destination country, rather than get picked up at the airport and driven to the hotel, then your wish can be granted. As a person, you would not have to worry about jumping buses or hustling for cars at all times. You would have a car at your beck and call just like it belongs to you. The interesting thing about using travel agents is the packages that come with their service. They have direct contact with various hotels and resorts and as such using their service means that you get to enjoy discounts and some other hotel packages and resort packages. You get to pay less and even enjoy better offers when you book a hotel using a travel agency. What I mean in essence is that if you book a room at let?s say, Eko hotel, you might be lucky enough to pay for the same service just because you made your bookings via Hotels.ng. It saves you the whole stress of getting to the physical location of the hotel and having to stand around at the front desk just to sort and decide on the room you would prefer and what not. There are as well travel agents that help with passport processing, tours, travel insurance, cargo services, company retreat packages, and some travel agencies even offer tourism deals. What else could we ask for? I?m stuck on them for as long as they last. And I hope that means forever.  Travel agents offer so much more. They ensure to give you a personal agent who will attend to your every need and want from start to finish. I mean, if someone had told me that with them, I could sleep and wake up peacefully, knowing that there is someone somewhere fighting my battles for me. I would dream better. I would save time, money and even stress. What was the particular feature of travel agents that won your heart and closed the deal for you? I would really like to know. My Experience Travelling to Kigali as A Nigerian

by Mosimileoluwa Alabi/November 26 12:56 PM Last updated on Dalai Lama once said, ?Once a year, go someplace you?ve never been before?. This kept ringing in my head on the day I was granted my sabbatical at work. I?ve always wanted to visit a country in East Africa and when I suggested this to Ammae, my friend, the first thing she said was ?Try Rwanda, you?d love it?. For a moment, I was like, ?What is the fuss about Rwanda? You did not even advise me to try Mauritius?? Also, after watching Hotel Rwanda and discovering the gory past of the country, it was not top on my list of countries to visit. I spoke to Chioma about it too and she pulled me to a chair and began to lecture me on why I should not jump into conclusions about a particular place. I decided to read about people?s travel experiences in the country. I was blown away by the stories but I still had my reservations. Eventually, I decided to give the country a try. Guess what? I was beyond dazed. My visit to the country?s capital, Kigali is one I?d not forget in a long time. It made me believe the saying ?Never judge a book by its cover?- Do not jump into conclusion about a person or place just because you are privy to information about their past. Chioma was very happy her lectures were not thrown in the bin. A breathtaking view of Kigali Visiting Kigali was done with an open mind and without much expectation and after 2 days of exploring Kigali, my mindset changed. The first thing I started with was how I would get a Rwanda tourist visa. I checked various sites but they were not giving me the amount of information I wanted/needed. I finally came across this article about acquiring a visa to Rwanda on Timbu.com. I was also able to garner information on the currency used in the country and other basic travel information I needed. I had to brush up on a few Swahili phrases as that is the official spoken language in the country. The next thing was to book my flight from Rwanda to Lagos. I eventually settled with Rwandair. Guess where I got my flight information from? Click here for cheap flights to Rwanda In honor of solo travel August, I packed my bags and boarded Rwandair from Muritala Mohammed Airport, Lagos and off I went to Rwanda. What was I thinking when I decided to travel alone? For some weird reasons, the trip had me feeling nervous than usual. Thoughts like Will I be okay? Will it be worth it? kept haunting me. After about 4 hours of flying, I finally got to Kigali International Airport around 3:00 pm Nigerian Time, 4:00 pm Rwandan Time (Rwanda is 1 hour ahead of Nigeria). I purchased my visa for 30 USD and got my passport stamped. I was captivated by how clean the city looked - I mentally praised the government for the complete ban of plastic. Unlike in my dear country, Nigeria, where you would find the streets littered with various forms of plastics. I feel this law would be very useful in Nigeria as well. Booking my hotel was the next important thing. Of course, I had to book the Hotel des Milles Collines, the historical hotel in Hotel Rwanda. I wanted to feel like I partook in history. Cheesy, right? But I did not care. Hotel des Milles Collines was a safe house for thousands during the genocide that occurred in the country. However, there is currently no evidence of the part the hotel played during the genocide. This could probably be because the country has been trying to rid itself of its gory past and come into the light of a new beginning. There were other top hotel options like the Kigali Marriott Hotel, Radisson Blu Hotel (This hotel is very expensive, but if you are ready to have splendor sniffing around your wallet, you can opt for it), Onomo Hotel, Kigali Serena Hotel, Ubumwe Grand Hotel and The Retreat. My room at Hotel des Milles Collines was tiny but I loved it. It was so beautiful and it gave me a perfect view of the hotel. The hotel food was great too. I?m not trying to over-hype things. Remember I traveled to the country with an open mind. I planned to tour the city the next day because I had two more days left. A view of Hotel de Mille Collines Going round Kigali was not a problem as I hired a chauffeur for the day - I love comfortable travel. It was quite affordable. There were other options too. SafeMotors, a transport company similar to Uber was also available. My first stop was the Presidential Palace Museum. This was the residence of the late President of Rwanda, Juvenal Habyarimana, but it is now a museum. The tour guide took his time to explain every piece of work in detail and gave me a full tour of the building. It is one of the most relatable museums I have ever visited. He also explained how the President lived, which was totally unbelievable (It was real but it felt too good to be true) I mean how can you have weapons in every room, security gadgets strategically placed around the house and a witchcraft room, yet death still came from within that house. Apparently, the President?s wife and her brother planned his death. It was there I began to relate with the African proverb that says, ?The insect that eats the vegetable is inside the vegetable?. The president?s wife is still mysteriously alive by the way. The killing of the President is believed to be the catalyst to the Rwandan Genocide. I also visited the Kigali Cultural Village. I found very beautiful Rwandan clothes, bags, accessories and jewelries from different sellers all under one roof. The market happens to be a place where you can buy something very unique that nobody among your friends will have. I was opportune to meet some of the best designers and local artists in Kigali there. I ended up buying beautiful jewelry from the market. Inside Kigali Cultural Village Finally that day, I went to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. I wished that was the first place I visited. No trip to Rwanda or Kigali is complete without spending some quality time at the Kigali Genocide Memorial. This is the best place to learn about the Rwandan Genocide which is one of the most unpleasant historical times in Africa. My visit there started at the reception where there is an introductory video showing a few Rwandans whose lives have been changed by the genocide. I then proceeded to the main building where an audio guide explained the chronology of events across the museum. Inside the museum, there are also halls dedicated to victims of the genocide and there are about 100 pictures of people displayed on the walls. Outside the main building, there are gardens and a real cemetery where the remains of the victims of the genocide were buried. I could not continue going because at a point I actually started crying. Talking about the genocide was really difficult for Rwandans because it was very tragic. The good thing is that the Country has done a good in building a Rwanda that the citizens can now be proud of. A section of the Kigali Genocide Memorial dedicated to victims of the genocide After the whole tour for the day, I was both excited, tired and hungry. I did not want to eat any European food as the hotel where I lodged already did justice to that. Cocobean did not disappoint as there was a bevy of fantastic Rwandan cuisines. I eventually opted for the Goat Mafe, which is goat cooked in peanut sauce. I thought I was going to puke as this was way out of my regular Nigerian dish but it was a great choice. The goat was super tender and was served in a thick gravy and peanut sauce. Who would ever think that one day I'd be eating goat meat without pepper? Ohh and the view was breathtaking. Goat Mafe My guide took me for lunch the next day at Afrika Bite. Everything served there is 100% Rwandan/ East African and is very affordable. I tried Ugali, a Rwandan dish of corn fufu with plenty of things. It had baked beans, water spinach, sweet potato mash, unripe banana mash and some things I do not know served alongside peanut sauce. I actually enjoyed it even though it did not look physically appealing. My flight back to Lagos was by 10 pm that day and I wished I had planned on staying longer. Solo travel to Kigali was incredible and I am glad to have experienced a new country and to have been received with warmth and hospitality. It was exciting to have crossed off a place off my East Africa bucket list. There was a lot of history, lessons on nation-building, intriguing stories and quite a number of therapeutic views in Kigali. I could not have asked for more. There is so much more to Rwanda than its gory past and mountain gorillas. I plan to go back someday, perhaps for a romantic getaway at Heaven Restaurant and Hotel.
